The Salton Sea sloshed more than usual Sunday morning as a magnitude 3.4 earthquake rocked the turgid waters, according to the United States Geological Survey. The quake was reported just after 5:45 a.m.
Besides the Salton Sea, which is located on the San Andreas fault, the quake was felt throughout the Coachella Valley and as far away as San Diego County. No injuries were reported.
A later quake, also measured at 3.4, hit in the Hollister area north of Fresno at 11:09 a.m. It was followed by a 3.0 quake about a minute later, the USGS said. Hollister is also located along the San Andreas fault.
